About Heather

Heather Curtis has been a general assignment reporter covering the D.C. metro area since 2012. Among the stories of note that she has reported on are the various impacts of COVID-19 on the region, the Capital Gazette shooting, two federal government shutdowns and the disappearance of Sarah and Jacob Hoggle. 

Heather has also worked as a reporter at the former CBS Radio station WNEW and as an audio newsgatherer at Fox News Radio Network.

When not behind the microphone, Heather has taught news reporting and writing and advised students working on their final capstone enterprise stories at Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies Master’s in Professional Journalism program, which is where she earned her master’s degree in 2014. 

Before moving to the DMV Heather lived in Cape Cod, Massachusetts where she served as a news reporter and anchor for three radio stations. She also produced and anchored a segment for a weekly public affairs program called Sunday Journal.

During her tenure in Cape Cod, Heather covered many stories of note including the deaths of Ted Kennedy and Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Hurricane Isaac, the election of Sen. Scott Brown, Elizabeth Warren’s Senate campaign, Cape Wind’s efforts to build a controversial wind farm in Nantucket sound, and the yearly return of Great White sharks to the Cape’s famous beaches.

Before moving to Cape Cod, Heather lived and worked on the enchanting island of Martha’s Vineyard, serving as the News Director for WMVY radio where she ran a local news department. She was also a contributing writer to the Vineyard Gazette, the Martha’s Vineyard Times and Martha’s Vineyard Magazine.

Heather holds a master’s degree in journalism from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ithaca College.

Heather’s hobbies include singing with the Rockville Chorus, crafting, reading and going on nature walks.
